Process based counseling

A counselling process is communication between a Counselor and Counselle to bring out the SWOT( strength, Weakness, opportunities and threats) of the latter to take a decision. The counsllor doest not take any decision for the counselle(Client) but helps on the client to discover and re-discover himself. this can be done through different methods of questioning, self test. psychological tests. questionnaires, opinionated, psychometric tools. online tests etc.

.
Based on this counseling,Process counseling can be classified into three areas

1 Direct counseling :The chief exponent of this type of counselling is E..William son. In directive counseling the major role is played by the Counselor. He keeps the major decision based on the diagnosis , He directs the thinking of the counselee by informing, explaining, interpreting and advising

2 Non Directive counseling  is also called as client centered counseling, where the major role is played by the Counselle .Carl R  Rogers is the chief exponent of this counseling client. This is also called coaching.. The major focus is on the maturity of the Counselee. The emphasis is on the integration of the counsellee not on the solution but on the emotional aspect which is stressed towards a voluntary action. The major focus is more facilitative to create an atmosphere where the client can take his own decision

3 Eclectic counseling : this is  a mix of the above two types of counseling,, F C Throne is the proponent of this viewpoint. depending upon the nature of requirement of the process the counselor can switch from directive to non directive counseling. keeping the objective of the counseling.Even techniques like reassurance, information giving, case history. testing etc can also be used
